Slide title
Hello, My name is Mrs. T. I'm going to tell you about a day on the dairy farm.

I live in the very northern part of Montgomery Count, MD, near Sugarloaf Mountain.

There are almost fifty Jersey and Brown Swiss cows in the herd that graze our hilly pastures.

Every morning and afternoon we walk up to the barn for milking time
ButtonSlide title
We walk in single file.
ButtonSlide title
Each of us knows exactly which stall we are supposed to go into.
ButtonSlide title
We put our heads through the slots in the front of the stall...
ButtonSlide title
...and then we get fed grain and hay.
ButtonSlide title
Mr. Toth, or one of the kids, bring around scoops of the grain mix for us.
ButtonSlide title
OK - I've finished eating - now it's milking time!
ButtonSlide title
Once we're in the stall, it's time to start milking.
ButtonSlide title
See how clean my udder is? I get a really good wash before milking starts!
ButtonSlide title
Above each stall is a bottle like this, The farmer can see that milk is flowing.
ButtonSlide title
I give up to five gallons of milk every day.
ButtonSlide title
From the milking parlor, milk is piped to a cooling tank in the dairy room.
ButtonSlide title
Once a day a big shiny truck comes to our farm to pick up the milk.
ButtonSlide title
The driver tests the milk for purity and butterfat content.
ButtonSlide title
After milking all the eqipment has to be washed and disinfected - twice a day!
ButtonSlide title
After shipping, there's still plenty of milk for our young calves.
ButtonSlide title
I hope you've enjoyed learning about our day. Goodbye for now...
